李笑來托福iBT作文 1
Some people prefer to live in a small town. Others prefer to live in a big city. Which place would you prefer to live in? Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.
People seldom agree with each other even in such trivial issues as preference between a big city and a small town. It’s a little bit haste to say that it is better to live in a big city than to live in a small town, or vice versus.
Living in a big city has several benefits. First, there’re more job opportunities readily available in big cities than in a small town. Furthermore, not merely there are more job positions in big cities, the qualities of the position are much higher as well. In addition, the pay is more decent. Second, children are supposed to be able to receive an education with a higher quality compared with their counterparts who live in a small town. For families, children’s education is always put in the first place. Finally, living in a big city has a superior overall living standard to that in a small town. There are more commodities and services in city markets; there are more public utilities available in big cities; there are even much more television channels in big cities.
However, living in a small town also has some advantages. People who live in a small town often have a much comfortable life style. Most of them are immune from suffering of high working stress. Although the average pay is much less than that of big cities, the price of daily necessities, such as vegetables or meat, is usually more inexpensive. Instead of suffering loneliness which is prevalent in big cities, children might grow up more healthily because of harmonious relationship among residents in small town. People in a small town do not have to get up so early in the morning because there has been no traffic jam, and no body drive so fast in a small town as to cause accidents. They might have fewer channels in television, but they have more friends readily available to chat or entertain with.
According to my current situation, although I am longing for the cozy atmosphere and relationship among neighbors and friends which almost only exist in big cities, I have chosen to live in one of the biggest cities in my country --- Beijing, since I have found a pretty good job here, and a decent pay. I think I would prefer living a small town when I get retired one day.[392 Words]

If you could travel back in time to meet a famous person from history, what person would you like to meet? Use specific reasons and examples to support your choice.
There are a lot of person who made great contributions to our society. When facing the question who is the most preferred person to meet, people hold diverse choices due to their respective emotional concerns and personal angles. In my point of view, I would meet the famous scientist Yuan Longpin duo to his achievement, personality and spirits.
To begin with, Mr. Yuan is the celebrated scientist who had accomplished so great feat for the people of whole country. As we all know, the agriculture of our country is too weak, and millions of people need enough food to eat. The fact has lasted decades of years until the new kind of grain was planted. It is Mr. Yuan who bred the new coin by thousands of trials, suffering countless fails. The new crossbreed coin make an exceedingly stride in the output, reaching 800 kilograms per acre in some regions. The achievement has mainly solved the food-needy problem in china.
Next factor why I choose Yuan Longpin is because one of his characters: industrious. In the process of experiments, Mr. Yuan, as old as 60, in spite of the hot sunshine or pouring storms, seed, water and fertilize in the field. Moreover, he had traveled almost every corner of whole country to find the most suitable weather and soil condition. By his thousands of trial plants, the plantation of the new grain is successful. Now it is mass-produced all over the country. From this, I know that success is based on sweat and struggle.
An additional reason is his providing of education for the young generations. Yuan donated to build 3 middle schools in his hometown. Meanwhile, he told the students the knowledge is the most powerful force to change the poor fate. Now hundreds of students educated there has graduated from universities and be main forces in diverse industries.
Admittedly, there are also other persons in history who should gain respect from us in that they had impulsed our society to develop in all aspects. But I would rather say that the enough food is the basis of other activities. It is Yuan longpin who make it came to true, therefore, whom I want to meet is him..
To sum up, all the factors mentioned above weave into an organic whole and thus be more convincible. All the values we gained from YUAN LONGPIN will definitely benefit to not only me but also every Chinese people. This also leads to my original propensity.

The debate over government spending on arts versus athletics has been ongoing for many years and there are valid arguments on both sides. Those who advocate for increased government spending on the arts argue that it is an investment in culture and that it provides numerous benefits to society, including economic growth and job creation, education and personal development, and the preservation of cultural heritage. On the other hand, those who argue for increased spending on athletics argue that it promotes physical fitness, national pride, and international recognition, and can drive economic growth through tourism and the creation of sports-related jobs.
In my view, both arts and athletics are important and should be supported by governments to some extent. However, the exact amount of funding allocated to each area will depend on a variety of factors, including the priorities and resources of the government, as well as the specific needs and interests of the population.
For example, in countries where there is a strong tradition of artistic expression and cultural heritage, it may be more important to allocate more resources to support the arts. In these countries, investment in the arts can drive tourism, create jobs, and preserve important cultural traditions. In contrast, in countries where athletic performance is a major source of national pride and international recognition, it may be more appropriate to allocate more resources to support athletic programs.
At the same time, its important to consider the economic impact of both arts and athletics. Investment in the arts can stimulate economic growth by creating jobs and boosting tourism. The arts also have the potential to drive innovation and creativity, which can lead to new products and services and provide a boost to the overall economy. On the other hand, investment in athletic programs can also drive economic growth, as sports tourism and the creation of sports-related jobs can contribute to local economies.
Ultimately, the question of whether governments should spend more money on the arts or athletics is a complex one and will depend on a variety of factors. While it is important to support both arts and athletics, the exact allocation of resources will depend on the specific needs and interests of the population, as well as the priorities and resources of the government. In conclusion, while both arts and athletics are important and should be supported by governments, the exact amount of funding allocated to each area will depend on the specific needs and interests of the population and the priorities of the government. Investment in both the arts and athletics can drive economic growth, promote physical fitness and national pride, and contribute to the cultural heritage of a nation.

School-age children need encouragement from parents to build confidence and willingness in study. The act that parents offer money for each grade they get is a good material incentive, which allows them to have enough pocket money to do what they want to as well as the sufficient reasons to work hard to get a next good grade.
Some school-age children that are occupied with studies feel isolated. They do not have enough awareness about what behind the good grades in examinations. Parents’ behavior of offering money for each high grade they get tells them that working hard in study is a necessary. It means parents cares about their efforts and their results. They stand with their children.
Material rewards should not be the best way to encourage school-age children to have a better academic performance. Parents have the obligation to let their school-age children know that only by studying hard, can they achieve good grades in examinations. And making efforts in study is all for their own choices of their future.
School-age children do not have a mature and sound consumption view. Once they got much money from their parents, they are likely to spend their pocket money without any limit before they have a consideration. They may form a bad habit of spending money.
Parents’ behavior of offering money for their children’s each high grade in school will make their school-age children misunderstand that grade or mark,is the most valuable standard to measure their academic performance. And money is the optimum way to express recognition. They have an alternative to tell their children that the process of acquiring weighs more and they always understand them during the way of learning. For example, the frequent communication and participation in their children’s learning activities.

I support the idea that a factory to be built near our community. I list my reasons as follows. Firstly, a new factory near our community helps to improve living standard of people in our community. The factory will employ a lot of workers. As a consequence, the unemployment rate will drop significantly. Many people in our community will find a job in the factory. As peoples income increases, they will be able to spend more money on their food, clothing and leisure time, and the quality of life will be increased.
Secondly, a new factory will bring prosperity to our community. The tax collected from a factory is an important source of revenue for our town. As people have higher income, income tax collected will also be increased. The town will be able to spend more money on infrastructures and other development. Moreover, in order to accommodate more workers, more homes and stores will be needed. This will boost real estate development in our community.
Some people say that a factory would bring smog and pollution, and destroy the quality of the air and water in town. This is not the truth. Modern technologies have made todays factories technology intensive and brought pollutions to the minimum. There are also worries that the social structure of this community will be changed and the traditional life will be affected. We should understand that society needs to evolve and we cannot always stay in the old time.
Of course, there will be some drawbacks of building a new factory here. But in my opinion, the benefits outweigh the dangers. I strongly support to build a factory here, and hope that others feel the same way.

If a large factory is going to be built near your community, is it good or bad? It’s a quite difficult question to answer. Because there are many aspects to take into your consideration, the advantages and the disadvantages. Let’s talk about that.
First, a large factory, especially a large chemical factory is quite harmful to our environment when it is built near our community. It will affect our daily life a lot. All the chemical factories will produce a lot of waste and most of the wastes are harmful to the environment, including poisonous gas and liquid. Some of them can not be entirely broken down. If they are released into the air or the river, it will affect our health. And also the factory may produce a lot of noise. The environment we want to live in is a quiet and peaceful one, so the noise will be quite boring. And yes, noise also affects our health.
Still one thing, a factory can be very dangerous. Because a fire or a explosion may break out in the factory. If it’s very near our home, it’s quite dangerous.
But in other hand , a factory may be a good news to us. It can provide more jobs for us, especially for the young people in our community. Since the factory is near, it’s so convenient to go to work.. and the factory will get more chances to our area. It will help to develop our area. So if the factory can bring us a lot of chances, we will agree to build one. But the most important things are:
1. Build the factory in a safe distance from our community, not too near.
2. Make sure that the factory can deal with the waste properly. Do not release the poisonous gas
into the air, and not release the waste water into the river nearby.
3. Make sure the security guard in the factory works very well.

There are two main channels for people to learn knowledge –from books and from experience.
Generally, knowledge gained from books is theoretical, that gained from experience is practical. It is difficult to answer which is more important to we people. It depends on the phases and events of our learning. Knowledge learned from books is instructive, which perhaps cannot learn directly from experience. We often hear thunders雷聲 and see lightning in the sky, and we can easily find that lightning will be seen sooner than sound will be heard. According to our experience alone, we cannot tell why it had happened. But when we learn some physics in textbooks, we will find the answer clearly that because light travels faster than sound does, it takes less time for light to travel the same distance than for sound. Therefore, book knowledge can inform us some useful theories that can give us general ideas and help us understand the real phenomenon better.instructive.
In turn反之, practice knowledge check out the theories gained from books. There is an old Chinese saying that practice is the only criterion of inspecting the truth. So not all knowledge from books is credible, even false. When Aristotle wrote in his transcripts that the earth is the center of our planets, no one doubts this for centuries. However, when Galileo read about it, he did not suspect it at first, but when he made some observation and research, he found it is not the truth. Then comes the new theory—Sun center theory.

Should a person with an incurable illness spend his last days in a hospital where he or she can receive the best possible medical care? Or should this person be permitted to die at home? These two questions are difficult to answer and may cause some heated arguments. My view is that we have to consider two different situations and make our decisions accordingly.
The first possible situation is that the patient is still conscious and able to express himself. In this case, we should talk to him and find out his own opinion. If he wishes to stay in a hospital, we should send him there and try to get the best medical care for him no matter how much it will cost. If he wants to stay at home, we should show respect for his opinion and do our best at home for him no matter how troublesome it may be. The rationale of this view is that the best we can do for a dying person is to satisfy his last wishes except when he wants anthanasia in a country in which it is still illegal.
The other possible situation is that the patient is no longer able to express himself. In this case, it is better to let him stay at home and spend his last days with his relatives. This view is based on the following considerations. This first is that since the patient is going to die anyway, it is better for him to die at home instead of a place where his relatives are not allowed to stay with him all the time. The second is that it would be a waste of money, time, and energy to hospitalize the patient. The third is that what a hospital can do for a dying person can only bring more suffering to him. For instance, operations or intravenous drips are useless and painful and fist aids applied to him can only make him live longer to suffer more. The best thing a hospital can do is to reduce his pains in his last days, but this can also be done at home.
In short, my view is that when the questions are considered objectively, the answer is clear: it is better for him, for his relatives, and for society if the patient stays and dies at home. However, as human beings, we cannot discuss a patient without emotional considerations. To fully understand this position, we can just imagine how we would feel if one of our realties were suffering from an incurable illness.

In English, there is a well-known fairy story about a poor country boy, Dick Whittington, whogoes to London because he believes that the streets of that city are “paved with gold”. The storyis a tale of “from rags to riches”. Dick eventually becomes the Lord Mayor of London. Like thehero of that story, I always find wonder and adventure in cities.
Cities contain a great assortment of people. Whenever I walk around a shopping precinct atmidday on a weekend, I am fascinated by all the different types of people hurrying around theshops. Sometimes, I just sit on a public bench and simply watch the variegated streams ofshoppers. Today, in the age of globe-trotting transport and communications, city life is moremixed than it has ever been. Capital cities are not cosmopolitan, and eager to attract foreign tradeand currency. There is a contemporary English joke which tells that “you can never find anEnglishman in London”.
Whether rightly or wrongly, governments and local authorities usually build public amenities inthe big cities. Money is invested in transport, libraries, parks and museums. Often, countries willcompete with each other for the best “show-case” building. Malaysia has built a skyscraper that istaller than is anything in New York. In large countries, region will compete against region: NewYork against Chicago, Shanghai against Hong Kong and Beijing.
All of this is good for the citizen. The magic of the Dick Whittington story is rekindled in me whenI enter a library in a magnificent building. If a person is at university studying art or music, a largecity usually offers galleries and public performances. Even as a teenager, I appreciated the worthof living in a city because two or three times a year there was a rock concert by a favorite is the urban landscape. If a person has an appreciation of architecture, a city can beas visually exciting as the Himalayas. A modern metropolis is a mountain range of height, lightand solidness. And then there are the old buildings: the quaint, unspoiled side-street or shops andhomes from a distant age. If a person lived all of his life in one large city, he would continue todiscover its architectural secrets into his old age.
Man is a social animal. He talks, mixes and creates. Cities offer the libraries, universities and cafebars for him to meet others of his kind.

Nowadays, children rely too much on the technology, like computers, smartphone, video games for fun and entertainment; playing simpler toys or playing outside with friends would be better for the childrens development.
For parents, how to well plan their children’s development has been a huge problem. While some children are given more time on technological gadgets, others are more inclined to choose some activities, such as going camping or traveling. For me, the former option would be a better one.
Admittedly, playing simpler toys or playing outside might be good choice for children. Simpler toys, namely Lego, are a good way to develop children’s thinking on solving the problem through block by block. By assembling the pieces for different blocks, children could assemble an even big piece, such as the classic London Tower Bridge. Also, playing with friends is helpful. When they are playing with others, they would cooperate with them to playing sports or even solve problems. However, on balance, both of these ways are limited in helping children. Toys and outdoor activities are restrained to their actual forms: parents need lots of money to buy different toys to help children develop, and they pay a great amount of money on helping their children for different activities. For those parents who suffer from financial burden, these are not effective ways for children’s development. Comparatively, technology would be a more effective way for children.
Firstly, Internet via computers and smartphone are essential for their development. In other words, Internet provides students with vast amounts of information. According to a recent survey conducted by Gallup, after polling thousands of students from local high schools, most respondents claim that Internet is the helper from them to finish homework. When they have problems, they would search reference on Internet. Websites such as Google Scholar would be a wonderful tool for them to find some papers or academic reference for their homework. Meanwhile, Internet is a wonderful place for them to entertain as well. They could watch movies on . They could even find interesting stories on . All funny experiences are available on Internet without causing children too much money.
In addition, video games are also necessary for children’s growth. When children are playing video games, they might learn some strategic thinking. For example, when I am playing FIFA 2016, I have to manage my team members according to their physical strength so that I could beat other teams. For those who run quickly, it would be a good idea for them to play forward; for those who are tall and strong, they would be better playing middle field. Because of this team management strategy, I have achieved many titles in the game. Learning from this, I would allocate my time in finishing homework according to my energy level. When I am energetic, I might choose the most difficult homework; if I am tired, I might choose some easy-to-do tasks, which would not cost me much time.
To conclude, while playing toys or spending time on outdoor activities is a good way for their development, technology would be better way.

Taking a panoromic view of human history, we can readily find that the natural environment plays an enormously important role in determing the future of each and every country. Given the great significance of clean environment, the general public as well as the governors begin to wonder which is the most essential action to protect the environment, among funding new energy research, preserving natural habitat or enacting strict laws. Towards such a long-running tug-of-war, I am inclined to argue that national governments should invest financial support in developing new energy sources.
Initially, spending more money in discovering new energy can radically solve the various environmental problems. As is common sense, the deteriorating environment is the result of the overexploitation of fossil fuels, including coal, oil and natural gas. To be specific, numerous chemical plants usually burn the coal to provide power for manufacturing all kinds of goods designed to satisfy the basic needs of the general public. As a result, a large amounts of industrial wastes are discharged to take a toll on the natural environment. Also, an increasing number of petrol-powered automobiles will definitely emit car exhause(. fumes and toxic gas), which can increase the likelihood of the public suffering from respiratory diseases. All the above problems related to environment can be resolved by find new and clean energy like solar energy, wind power and tidal power. Undoubtedly, replacing the traditional energy with the new ones can dramatically decrease the pollution and contamination, thus leading to a better living environment. For example, once the cars uses the electricity instead of petrol, the air quality will improve to a large extent.
Secondly, there are conspicuous limitation of the other two options. As for preserving natural places, the effect of this practice is relatively restricted. To illustrate, the traditional energy sources are usually exploited and discovered in the natural places. Consequently, the preservation of natural places will hinder the access to various energy and thus impede the progress of the whole society. Also, the same logic applies to passing laws to reduce pollution. It is an indisputable fact that across the globe, many countries now are heaviely dependent on the industries and factories which produce pollutions. In other words, once the law of punishing these companies is enforced, these corporation may have to cut down their output and make less profits, even ending up going bankcrupt. Accordingly, the national economy and the living standard of the public will suffer too.
Factoring what has been discussed above, we can conclude that funding research of environmental friendly energy will be more preferable, because finding proper alternative energy is the key to solving the environmental problems comprehensively.

With the sense of community becoming much stronger, how to protect the environment of local communities has never failed to attract the attention of the general public. Therefore, when it comes to which is the most feasible measure to help environment, among planting trees and building parks, encouraging local shops to stop using plastic bags, and improving public transportation, peoples notions may vary from one to another. Towards such a long-running tug-of-war, I am inclined to claim that the first option is the best.
Firstly, growing trees and constructing parks can definitely help to ameliorate the environment. For one thing, more trees will contribute to the improvement of the air quality of the whole neighborhood. As is common sense, the prosperous industrial development has produced large amounts of waste gas, with the result that the haze and smoggy weather shroud quite frequently the major cities in our country. The current air condition necessitates the planting of trees, which can purify the contaminated air to a large extent. In other words, trees, the lung of the earth, play a vital role in absorbing some harmful gas and producing more fresh air through photosynthesis. For another, the public parks can be helpful to increase the biodiversity of the local community. Accompanying the rapid urbanization, an increasing number of natural lands have been utilized for constructing factories, shopping mall and skyscrapers, which greatly diminishes the natural habitats of animals, such as birds and squirrels. In this case, parks become the only place which can serve as habitats for those animals. Accordingly, the species of animals living here can become more diverse.
In addition, there are certain limitations for the other two options. Admittedly, reducing the use of plastic bags and making public transportation more accessible may also be conducive to the environmental protection in some degrees. To illustrate, if the plastic bags are prohibited, the so-called white pollution will be relieved. Also, easier access to public transportation means less use of private cars, which leads to the reduction of car exhaust. However, in comparison to planting trees and building parks, the above two measures enjoy less popularity among the residents of the community and thus are unlikely to be implemented. The underlying reason is that growing trees and constructing parks can create a more comfortable living environment while the other two choices can bring about more inconvenience. To be more specific, if shops stop the use of plastic shopping bags, the customers have to take a cloth bag while shopping. Also, taking public transportation will take longer time than driving the private cars, which means that commuters have to get up much earlier than before. It is self-evident that whether a policy can be carried out directly determines its effect, which is especially true of the above situation.
Taking what has been discussed above, we can draw the conclusion that the most effective way of protecting environment in local communities is to plant trees and create parks.
